President Adama Barrow to officially Commission OMVG Brikama, Jarra Soma Sub-Stations

The President of the Republic of the Gambia, His Excellency  President Adama Barrow, will officially Commission the OMVG Brikama and  Jarra Soma Sub-Stations on 23rd October 2021 at Jarra  Soma Sub Station, in the Lower River Region of The Gambia.

Excellences, President Macky Sall of the Republic of  Senegal and His Excellency President Umara Muctarr Sissoco Embalo of the Republic of Guinea Bissau will attend the Commissioning of the OMVG Energy projects in The Gambia.

 The Gambia River Basin Development Organisation (OMVG) is a sub-regional organisation initiated on 30 June 1978, comprising The Gambia,  Guinea Conakry Guinea Bissau and Senegal.

The regional head office is based in Dakar, Senegal. The OMVG High Commission is the executing agency of the integrated development programmes of the four member states for rational and harmonious exploitation of the shared resources.

Currently, the Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR) is implementing the OMVG project in The Gambia. 

The OMVG project consists of the construction of the Sambangalou Hydroelectric dam in Guinea with an installed capacity of 128 MW and a 225-KV power transmission line stretching across 1,677 km with 15 high and medium voltage substations and two dispatching centers.

The total cost of the International Line and the Sambangalou Hydroelectric dam is estimated at almost USD 1.12 billion (1,147,462,262).
