President Adama Barrow Sunday inaugurated the new Senior Secondary School block at his alma mater, Koba Kunda Lower and Upper Basic School. He called on the students to make good of the new facilities noting that they had an opportunity that he never had when he was a student at the school. 

President Barrow said he is impressed with the current conditions of the school saying when he first visited the school few years ago it was in a very bad shape. 

“The roofs where leaking and I was afraid the school was going to be closed,” said President Barrow. President Barrow said he asked MRC Holland for support to renovate the school and help save it from closure. “I asked for the maintenance of the existing structure but they exceeded my expectations by adding a whole new senior secondary school,” said President Barrow. 

Honourable Claudiana Cole, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, said the Koba Kunda school complex is the only public school in the region comprising the basic, junior and senior secondary schools in the same place. She said it will save the students from long travel time. 

Minister Cole called on the students to look up to President Barrow as a role model and take their education seriously. “I am sure that the teachers who taught the President are proud of him for what he has become,” said Cole. 

President Barrow attended Koba Kunda Primary School from the late 70s to the early 80s before proceeding to Banjul for high school. He was taken on a tour of the new facilities including a computer lab before visiting his old grade six classroom, where he met one of his former teachers.
