State House, Banjul, 13th June 2026: The Gambia and Senegal signed new cooperation agreements on energy, border management, digital economy, youth development, technology, culture and tourism, and higher education, research, science and technology as President Adama Barrow and President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye concluded the 4th Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council in Dakar.
As the highest decision-making body for bilateral cooperation, the Presidential Council drives joint action on priorities affecting citizens of both states. In his remarks, President Barrow called the Council a mandate to consolidate our historic bond for present and future generations. He reaffirmed The Gambia’s commitment to full implementation, urging stronger cooperation on defence and security, trade and investment, agriculture, fisheries, transport, health, education, environment, digital transformation, and border management.
President Faye described the Council as a results-driven framework, citing the Senegambia Bridge and the Senelec-NAWEC electricity interconnection as proof of joint action. He reiterated Senegal’s commitment to unlocking economic integration, expanding trade, and combating illicit fishing.
To ensure delivery of the roadmaps adopted during the Council, both sides will establish joint working groups to coordinate, monitor, and fast-track commitments from the session.
