Hon. Fatou Kinteh
EDUCATION
Fatou Kinteh is a Gender and Programme Specialist with over 30 years of programme management experience. She holds a B.A. Degree in Sociology and History from the University of Sierra Leone and a MSc. Degree Economics, Population Policies and Programmes, from the University of Wales, Cardiff in UK.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Hon. Kinteh was first appointed Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare in March 2019 and reappointed to the same portfolio on 4th May 2022. She served as National Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Promotion and Microfinance Development Project, African Development Bank (ADB) from 2009 – 2010. In 2008, she held the position of National Expert Social Protection, then National Coordinator, Fight Against Social and Economic Exclusion Project – UNDP/ ILO. Between the period of 1997 – 2003: Deputy Executive Director, then Acting Executive Director – Women’s Bureau
Hon. Kinteh has successfully managed programmes on women, gender and development and youth for The Gambia Family Planning Association, the Women’s Bureau, the UNDP funded Fight Against Social and Economic Exclusion project which was executed by ILO, this project doubled its target (from 6000 women and youth to 12,000 women and youth). Between 2000 and 2006, the project reached 10% of the population of The Gambia directly. It was the flagship project for both UNDP and ILO.
Hon. Fatou Kinteh successfully managed the Gender programme of the UNFPA Gambia country programme for over 9 years, during which, she represented the UNFPA Country in chairing the UN Thematic Group on Gender.
