State House, Banjul, 17th March 2026: The Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Bo Li, commended the country's progress over the past seven years, citing satisfactory implementation of IMF programmes. He made this statement during a courtesy visit to President Adama Barrow at the State House in Banjul.

Reacting to Mr. Bo Li’s comments, President Barrow reiterated his government's commitment to fiscal discipline and digitalisation efforts to curb corruption and boost domestic revenue collection. He urged the IMF to continue supporting the country's development programs and emphasised that the ultimate responsibility for The Gambia's development lies with its citizens.

President Barrow also highlighted his government's social contract with the people, respect for institutional frameworks, and the crucial role of the private sector in driving economic growth. He emphasised the need for national security and economic stability to support social programmes and called for peace and stability in the country.

Mr. Li's visit aims to strengthen dialogue with authorities, who have shown a strong commitment to macro-economic stability and structural reforms.

The Gambia is working towards completing its second IMF program by year-end and is committed to starting a new one.
