Two Diplomats Present Letters of Credence to President Adama Barrow

Two diplomats, H.E. Mariam Sy from Senegal and H.E. Hassan Asgari from Iran presented their credentials as High Commissioner and Ambassador Plenipotentiary to The Gambia.

The presentations marked the beginning of their diplomatic duties and reflected the commitment of The Gambia to nurturing and strengthening International Cooperation.

President Barrow underscored the importance of promoting peaceful co-existence to advance development in The Gambia and Senegal. He encouraged High Commissioner Sy to continue strengthening the excellent bilateral relations that are based on shared values and languages between the two governments and their peoples. He expressed optimism that her tenure will further solidify this relationship.

The President seized the opportunity to convey salutations to President Basirou Diomaye Faye, his government and the people of Senegal.

On her part, the High Commissioner of Senegal H.E. Mariam Sy, reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations as decreed by President Basirou Diomaye FAYE.

During a similar audience with H.E. Hassan Asgari, President Barrow expressed his gratitude for the renewed relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He conveyed his best wishes to H.E. President Masoud Pazeshkian and urged Ambassador Asgari to focus on strengthening cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. They discussed the importance of working together to address challenges faced by member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

H.E. Hassan Asgari expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended the decision to resume relations with The Gambia, citing common values they share as Muslims. He used the occasion to wish President Barrow a blessed Ramadan.

Both diplomats reassured the Gambian President of greater cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade, and security sectors.
