State-Owned Enterprises Commission Updates President Barrow on 2025 Preformance

State House, Banjul, 14th January 2026: His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, received the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Commission today to present its annual performance report for 2025.

The SOEs Commission highlighted notable progress, including a significant reduction of losses exceeding one billion Dalasis and government investments of over two billion Dalasis to strengthen food and energy security through support to National Food Security, Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC), NAWEC and other enterprises. The meeting also reviewed challenges and strategies for improvement.

Reacting to the State Enterprises Commission’s 2025 performance report, President Barrow noted that despite resistance to change, the Commission’s work has positively impacted SOEs. He stressed the importance of strong oversight, assured the Government’s support, and encouraged continued open dialogue with SOEs. His Office has taken note of the report and will act to strengthen weaker enterprises.

The President emphasised the need for SOEs to shift from liability to profitability, commending the Commission and its Secretariat for their oversight role in improving the performance of enterprises to deliver services and dividends to the Government. Such developments support the Government's ability to provide subsidies to farmers, social protection and expansion of road networks in different parts of the country. President Barrow disclosed that in addition to partners' support to construct new roads, his Government plans to build over 800 kilometres of roads. Additionally, 200 kilometres of road will be constructed under the Ministry of Agriculture to support the agriculture value chain system.

The SOEs Chairperson, Ousainou Ngum described the meeting as productive while expressing gratitude to His Excellency for his leadership and commitment to strengthening State-Owned Enterprises as vital contributors to services, employment, and national development. The Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Hon. Seedy Keita accompanied the delegation.
