President Barrow Receives Special Envoy of Chadian President Mahamat Deby

State House, Banjul, 30th June 2026: His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Tuesday received Honourable Pascalet Kanabe Marcelin, Special Envoy of His Excellency Mahamat Idriss Deby, President of the Republic of Chad.

In delivering a special message from the Chadian President, Special Envoy Marcelin commended President Barrow’s decade of leadership in advancing sustainable development in The Gambia, particularly the significant achievements recorded in the water sector. He thanked His Excellency for The Gambia’s cooperation in extending water expertise to other areas, and conveyed an invitation for President Barrow to attend the Africa Water Forum scheduled for 16th July 2026 in Chad.

Hon. Marcelin noted that while Chad is rich in water resources, it continues to face challenges in providing potable water to its population. He expressed Chad’s interest in learning from The Gambia’s experience.

In response, President Barrow reiterated that access to water is a fundamental right. He said The Gambia remains committed to addressing water challenges with notable progress in providing safe drinking water to its citizens. He encouraged other African countries to participate in the forum to share best practices.

President Barrow underscored the importance of the Water Forum in tackling climate change and reaffirmed The Gambia’s strong interest in environmental and climate issues. He assured The Gambia’s participation in the forum.

The President further conveyed his regards to the President of Chad and emphasised the need for African countries to collaborate, learn from one another, and work collectively to address shared challenges.
