President Adama Barrow, Sunday, December 11, called on the Kanifing Municipal Council to work closely with his government to deliver development to the people, saying one without the other will only lead to setbacks. The President was addressing a gathering in Talinding as part of his ongoing Meet The People Tour in the Kanifing Municipality.

The crowd cheered when he revealed that his government would establish governorates in Kanifing Municipality and Banjul, like in the other regions, to prevent party politics from undermining central development.

The President told the people that the world is going through an economic crisis due to the impact of COVID-19, and The Gambia is not an exception, adding that consequently, the prices of food commodities and other services drastically increased.

While acknowledging the crisis, President Barrow highlighted the incentives the government continues to take by subsidising the prices of food commodities and fuel. He said his government's agenda is to ensure people access essential services and decent livelihoods.

Touching on the transformation of the KM, the President cited the ongoing OIC roads and reminded the people that his pledge to transform the Municipality just like in Banjul is still on the table, and his government will finalise the modalities with the contractor once the Banjul project is completed.

Responding to the security concerns of the people, the President stressed that curbing insecurity remains a priority for his government. He said the weekly security briefings indicate a decline in the number of crimes, calling on the people to assist the police by quickly reporting any suspicious happenings that may lead to crime. He warned that it would be difficult to police domestic violence if it is not reported, advising people to avoid violent acts.
