President Barrow Declares Yawmal Ashura Public Holiday

State House, Banjul, 5th August 2022: His Excellency President Adama Barrow, acting under Section 76 (1) of the Constitution (1997) of the Republic of The Gambia, is pleased to declare Monday, 8th August 2022, a Public Holiday throughout The Gambia, in observance of the Muslim feast of Yawmal Ashura (Tamharit), which marks the first month of the Islamic calendar on Sunday, 7th August 2022.

The President wishes to take this opportunity to extend best wishes to all Muslims who are celebrating this important holiday. President Barrow urges all Gambians to continue to adhere to the principles of tolerance and peaceful co-existence.
