President Barrow Appoints Three Female Judges to the High Court

President Barrow, on Thursday, 8th December, presided over the swearing-in of three female judges of 
The Gambia Court of Appeal and the High Court. Justice Sainabou Wadda Ceesay, Justice of the Gambia Court of Appeal, Justice Veronic Wright, Justice of the Gambia Court of Appeal and Isatou Jallow-Sey, Justice of the High Court of The Gambia, took the prescribed oaths of office during a ceremony at the State House in Banjul.
 
President Barrow, in his statement, urged the newly sworn-in judges to uphold the oaths they took while thanking them for "their devotion to duty and for accepting to remain in the service of the nation". 

President Barrow said he is proud that appointing the three female justices is a testament to his government's efforts to ensure gender parity in the judicial system. "That all three of them are Gambian ladies compels me to express satisfaction and pride for the huge strides taken to make the Judiciary truly Gambian without compromising efficiency and ethical considerations," the President emphasised. 

The President seized the opportunity to applaud the Chief Justice, Honourable Hassan B. Jallow, for his exemplary leadership and significant achievements in the administration of justice in the country. He pledged the government's support to the judicial sector to attain its objective. 

Chief Justice Jallow, in his remarks, thanked the President for accepting the Judicial Service Commission's recommendations for the judges' appointment. He expressed confidence that the appointments would elevate the quality of judicial services in the country. He also said that having six females out of the seven Gambia Court of Appeal judges encourages female representation in the Justice System.
