WAPCP Pays Courtesy Call on President Barrow

State House, Banjul, 17 April 2024: Members of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Barrow ahead of their Annual General Meeting and Scientific Symposium under the theme “Medicine Safety” in The Gambia.

President Barrow thanked the College for choosing The Gambia to host the meeting. He cited the unfortunate incidents of the 2022 Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) as regrettable, following which the Government took the opportunity to prioritise health.

The President also expressed delight that African experts are discussing health-related issues at bilateral and multilateral levels. He encouraged them to pool resources and be innovative and brave in making decisions. “If positive change occurs elsewhere, it can happen in our countries, too.”

Speaking during the audience, the President of WAPCP, Mr Murtada Sesay, commended the Barrow administration for taking significant steps in setting up the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of The Gambia and a quality assurance laboratory.

The West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists is an agency of the West African Health Organisation that promotes excellence. The Member countries rotationally host the Annual General Meeting of the WAPCP.
